HOUSE OF FARTS!How to Play
Everything a new player needs, in one page
The point of it
HOUSE OF FARTS! is a first-person foam-dart shooter you play in a browser tab. Eight players, one gaudy room, four minutes. Every time you knock somebody over you are handed a better blaster, so the player in last place and the player in first are never holding the same thing for long. There is nothing to install and nothing to sign up for. The shots sound like farts. That is the whole joke and we have committed to it.
The four modes
FOAM ROYALE is the default: an online free-for-all in a public room that fills with up to eight real people. Rooms are matchmade and humans only, and you can drop into one that is already running.
FOAM WARS 4v4 splits the room into RED and BLUE. Friendly fire is off, so hitting a teammate costs nobody anything. The first team to score a level ten knockout wins the round; if nobody gets there, the team ahead when the clock reaches zero takes it.
HOUSE PARTY is your own room. You choose the ruleset (free-for-all or 4v4), the room size (anything from two to eight) and whether empty chairs fill with bots, then you hand out the code.
COUCH FOAM is the same game with no server involved. It starts instantly and fills with bots. Use it when you want to hit something now and not wait for strangers.
How a round runs
A round is four minutes long. You start on the Filiblaster 3000 and work up through ten guns: Double Tap, Scatter Doctrine, Filibuster Barrel, Triple Threat, Foam Sweeper, Super Foamer, Dart Storm, and the Mega Mallard, which is an explosive duck. Reaching gun ten gets you THE FOOTBALL. Open the suitcase, press the big red button, and a rocket-shaped foam dart falls out of the sky. A knockout with THE FOOTBALL ends the round on the spot and wins it. If the clock runs out first, the highest score takes the round instead.
The controls
On a phone or a tablet the on-screen sticks appear by themselves. The left stick moves, the right stick aims, and the buttons under your right thumb fire, jump and reload.
The arenas
There are two rooms and both of them are ridiculous. The Egg Office is the home arena: oval, beige, and full of furniture worth hiding behind. The Crimson Chamber is the away arena, all red carpet and long sightlines, which rewards the guns that spray. A coin toss picks between them when you have not picked one yourself.
Rooms and invite codes
Every online room has a short code, minted by the server the moment the room exists. It appears on the Room screen, on the pause screen and on the end-of-round screen, with one button to copy the code and another to copy the link. The link looks like houseoffarts.rip/r/ABCD, and whoever opens it goes straight to costume select. A player who joins with a code is never asked about ruleset, room size or bots: those belong to whoever made the room. A room with bot fill turned off waits for a second human rather than starting alone.
What it costs
Nothing. There is no account, no email box to fill in, no download and no launcher. Your high score is kept in your own browser and never leaves it. The game pays for itself with ads on these information pages, which is why you can read this and then go and play for free.
